How to download images on Facebook
You download images on Facebook by opening the picture full size and using Save image as on desktop, Download or Save to Photos on mobile, or pulling your entire library through Download your information for photos you uploaded. Facebook serves most images from a CDN—once you reach the full-resolution view, saving is straightforward. Bulk-downloading another person's profile images via third-party apps violates Facebook's rules and often triggers malware. Videozify handles video and audio files, not Facebook images.

Desktop: download images on Facebook in a browser
Works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari on Mac.
- Log into facebook.com.
- Click the image in the post to open the lightbox (dark background, large preview).
- Right-click → Save image as… (Windows) or Save Image As (Mac).
- Name the file and save.
If right-click is blocked:
- Click ⋯ on the post → Open in new tab if available.
- Or press F12 → Network tab → filter Img → reload lightbox → find largest
scontentURL → open in new tab → save. (Power-user path when menu is disabled.)
Keyboard tip: On Mac, Control + click opens the context menu if right-click is disabled in trackpad settings.
Mobile: download images on Facebook
iPhone (Facebook app)
- Tap photo to fullscreen.
- Share icon or ⋯ → Save to Photos / Save image.
- Check Photos app.

Android
- Open image fullscreen.
- Download icon (arrow) or long-press → Download image.
- Find in Gallery or Downloads.
Facebook Lite sometimes omits download—try full Facebook app or mobile browser at m.facebook.com.
Download images you uploaded (bulk)
Same as photo export:
- Settings → Your Facebook information → Download your information.
- Select Photos and videos, High quality, all dates.
- Create file → download zip when emailed.
Unzipped HTML lets you click through every image you've posted since account creation.
Profile pictures and cover photos
Profile photo: Visit profile → tap profile picture → View profile picture → save using steps above. You get the displayed version, not necessarily every historical profile pic.
Cover photo: Click cover → if Facebook shows View cover photo, open it and save. Some covers are responsive crops—exported file may differ from what visitors see on mobile.
Why "image downloader" sites are a bad idea
Paste a profile URL, get a zip—that's the pitch. Reality:
- Requires your Facebook session cookie or login (credential theft)
- Delivers 150×150 thumbnails for half the "album"
- Breaks when Meta updates Graph API
- May get your account temporarily locked

Image quality and file names
Saved files often arrive as scontent-xxxxx.jpg with random names. Rename for your archive: 2024-family-reunion-01.jpg.
Facebook applies compression on upload. A 4000×3000 phone photo might store as 2048×1536. Your Download your information export reflects what Meta stored, not always the pixel-perfect original from your camera roll backup.
Accessibility and shared content
Before saving and re-sharing:
- Check if the image is from a news org or photographer (copyright).
- Private group photos shouldn't leave the group without consent.
- Screenshots of personal information (IDs, addresses) create privacy risk—don't download casually.
