An MP3 to AAC converter transcodes an MP3 into a raw AAC / ADTS stream for tools that want a .aac file instead of M4A. Videozify transcodes the file. Quality does not improve. Drop the file, pick a bitrate, and download a .aac for that device.

How to convert MP3 to AAC

  1. Drop your MP3 file onto the box above, or click Browse to choose it from disk.
  2. Choose an AAC bitrate — 192kbps is the default and suits most listening.
  3. Press Convert and wait until the progress bar reaches one hundred percent.
  4. Download the AAC when it appears; the file saves only to this device.

Why convert MP3 to AAC?

AAC is a lossy codec that often ships as a raw .aac ADTS file rather than sitting in M4A. Some Android apps, hardware recorders, and broadcast tools want that stream. iPhone Voice Memos are M4A, not this. You convert because a picker said .aac, not because raw AAC sounds better than the MP3 you already have.

This is a second lossy generation. Keep the MP3 if the destination already plays it. Convert when the hardware literally lists AAC as an extension and rejects MP3. Expect similar size at a matched bitrate.

This page is not MP3 to M4A. M4A is the MPEG-4 audio wrapper. Raw AAC is a different box around a related codec. Sending the wrong wrapper at a dropzone is how people get a reject before any encode starts.

Do not rename .m4a to .aac to force this page. Use the matching converter so validation and related links stay honest.

If you only need a region of the track, trim the audio before the device ingests the AAC. If the source MP3 is too quiet, boost the volume on a copy first so you do not transcode twice.

AAC is a lossy audio codec that often ships as a raw .aac stream, which some hardware wants even when it already had the same sound as MP3.

Does converting MP3 to AAC improve quality?

No. You cannot un-hear an MP3 encode by wrapping it as AAC. Match the source bitrate. 320kbps AAC from a 128kbps MP3 is wasted space.

Raw ADTS may arrive untitled. Name the file for devices that sort by filename rather than tags.

If you wanted iPhone-friendly audio, MP3 to M4A is usually the better wrapper. Use this page only when the destination asked for .aac specifically.

When should you use M4A instead of raw AAC?

Use M4A for Apple Music, Voice Memos-style libraries, and anything that expects MPEG-4 audio. Use raw AAC for stubborn hardware and apps that probe the .aac extension. Same codec family, different ticket at the door.

Some players that “support AAC” only mean M4A. If the .aac fails and an .m4a of the same encode plays, you used the wrong page, not a broken encoder.

Broadcast chains sometimes want ADTS for splicing. That is a real reason to be here. A car USB stick usually is not — it wanted MP3 all along.

Raw .aac files often have no title tags and a less friendly duration display in Finder. That is expected. If you need artwork and a track name, wrap AAC as M4A instead. Use this page when the receiver named the extension, not when you wanted a prettier file.

Hardware that asked for ADTS often fails on M4A because it never implemented MPEG-4 boxes. That is the only honest reason to prefer this converter over MP3 to M4A.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting MP3 to AAC improve quality?

No. Both codecs are lossy. Transcoding stacks two perceptual models. The AAC will not match a real encode from a WAV master. Use this when a tool wants a .aac file, not to upgrade a rip. Keep the MP3 as the file you started with.

What's the difference between AAC and M4A?

AAC is the codec. M4A is usually AAC inside an MPEG-4 audio file. This page writes raw ADTS .aac. If you need something iPhone Music will treat as ordinary, use MP3 to M4A instead of this converter. The dropzone cares about the wrapper.

Will my car play a .aac file?

Many MP3-era head units will not. They wanted MP3. Raw AAC is for tools that asked for it. If the car rejected MP3 and you hoped AAC would help, it often will not. Check the USB manual before transcoding a whole library.

Will this work on iPhone or Android?

Yes. Safari and Chrome run the engine. Music files are usually small. A long audiobook can still stress RAM. If the tab reloads, convert on a computer..

Can I convert several MP3 files at once?

Not currently. One file at a time keeps memory use predictable. Convert, download, then drop the next track. After the engine loads once, later files skip that download. A folder of clips is still one drop each; there is no batch zip.

Is it legal to convert MP3 to AAC?

Making a personal copy of a recording you have rights to use is the intended case. Transcoding a commercial MP3 whose licence limits formats may still be restricted. Videozify does not store files and cannot check those terms or a store receipt.
