How to trim audio online
- Drop an audio file onto the box above, or click Browse to choose it from disk.
- Set start and end in seconds using the number fields or the range sliders.
- Press Trim and wait until the progress bar reaches one hundred percent.
- Download the MP3 when it appears. The file saves only to this device.
Why use an online audio trimmer?
An audio trimmer removes the seconds you do not need without opening a full DAW. Voice notes start late. Lecture captures include minutes of chairs shuffling. Podcast exports keep the pre-roll countdown. You want a commute file, a pull quote, or a ringtone, not the whole session. Desktop editors can cut, but they also want a project file and a plugin scan.
Videozify trims in the tab. That matters for a client call, a medical dictation, or a family voicemail you would not park on a third-party site. Output is 192kbps MP3 so cheap players and car stereos will take it.
This is not a multi-clip editor. There is no fade control, no beat grid, and no spectral repair. If you need those, keep Audacity. If you need twenty seconds from a forty-minute WAV, this page is the shorter path.
Trimming is not loudness work. If the take is quiet after the cut, use the volume booster. If you have several pieces to glue together, trim each one first, then use the audio joiner.
If the source is still a video, extract the audio first. If you needed WAV for an editor, convert MP3 to WAV after the cut.
Audio trimmer: input vs output
| Input | Output | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical files | MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG | MP3 |
| Edit type | Full file | Start to end region |
| Audio codec | Whatever you dropped | MP3 at 192kbps |
| Processing | Local | Local |
| Fades | Not applied | Hard cut at your times |
| Best for | Voice notes, talks, songs | Quotes, intros, ringtones |
An audio trimmer is a cutting tool that writes a shorter MP3 from a start and end time you choose in seconds.
How do start and end times work?
After you drop a file, the browser reads duration from metadata. The sliders span that length. Start must stay before end. A tenth of a second is the minimum region so identical numbers do not fire an empty encode.
Times are seconds, not timecode. A three-minute file is 180. If duration cannot be read, usually on a raw AAC stream, convert to MP3 or WAV first, then return here.
The cut re-encodes to MP3. You lose a generation versus a lossless WAV export in a DAW. For speech and most music on earbuds, 192kbps is enough. Keep the original if it is a master.
Should you trim before converting format?
Usually yes. A four-minute WAV is about 40MB. Trimming to thirty seconds first makes a later MP3 encode cheaper on memory. If the file is already MP3, trim here and skip a second format hop unless a device demanded WAV or M4A.
Protected FairPlay or store-locked audio fails the same way it fails on the conversion pages. Unprotected exports work.
If you only need to delete a cough in the middle and keep both sides, you need a timeline editor, not a single range control. This tool keeps one continuous slice.
Zoom dumps with five minutes of silence at the end are the classic trim job. Set end at the applause, download, and move on. If the room was quiet except for one answer, trim that answer and boost volume only if it still sits low after you listen.
Frequently asked questions
Does trimming audio reduce quality?
- This tool re-encodes to 192kbps MP3, so there is a small extra loss if the source was already compressed. The cut itself does not smear the remaining samples. Keep the original if it is a master. For voice notes the extra pass is usually hard to hear on a phone speaker.
Can I cut several regions from one file?
- Not in one pass. Set one start and one end, download, then run again on the original for another quote. A single range keeps the UI honest. If you need five excerpts, trim each piece and join them with the audio joiner afterwards.
Will this audio trimmer work on iPhone or Android?
- Yes, in Safari or Chrome. Long uncompressed WAVs can still exhaust phone memory even when the output is short. Convert those on a computer..
Does the trimmer add fades?
- No. You get a hard cut at the times you set. A click at the splice is possible if you land mid-word or on a kick drum. Nudge the handles slightly. Real fades belong in a DAW, not in this browser range control.
How long can an audio file be before trimming?
- There is no duration cap in the UI, but the whole file loads into memory. A two-hour WAV on a phone tab will struggle even if you only keep thirty seconds. Trim long lectures on a computer. Short voice notes work fine on mobile.
Is it legal to trim someone else's audio?
- Trimming a recording you made or have permission to edit is the intended case. Cutting a commercial track to post as a clip can still be a copyright issue. Videozify does not store files and cannot check a licence or a platform rule.
