Choose fileAn extract audio tool takes the soundtrack out of a video and saves it as MP3. Drop an MP4 or MOV, pick a bitrate, and download audio you can play in a car without dragging a 4K file along for the commute.
How to extract audio from a video
- Drop a video file onto the box above, or click Browse to choose it from disk.
- Choose an MP3 bitrate. 192kbps is the default and suits most listening.
- Press Extract MP3 and wait until the progress bar reaches one hundred percent.
- Download the MP3 when it appears. Keep the video if you still need the picture.
Why extract audio from video instead of keeping the file?
Extract audio discards the picture on purpose. A meeting recording is a talking head you will never watch twice. A concert phone video is a song with a dark stage. Cars, cheap MP3 players, and podcast apps want sound, not HEVC. Format pages like MP4 to MP3 do the same family of job for one extension. This tool accepts several video types and lets you pick bitrate here.
The tab still loads the whole video. Extraction is not a free RAM win on a 2GB MKV. It is a smaller download and a file that plays in more places. If the MKV is huge, extract on a computer.
Audio is transcoded to MP3. If the source was AAC, that is a second lossy pass. 128kbps is enough for speech. 192kbps is the default. 320kbps will not restore a hall recording that was already a phone mic.
This is the first stream ffmpeg would pick. Commentary and second languages are not a menu. Isolate a track in an editor if you need a specific mix.
If you already know it is an MP4, MP4 to MP3 is the matching format page. For an editor bounce, extract WAV from MP4 instead of MP3.
Extract audio vs format conversion pages

Extract audio is a soundtrack tool that writes an MP3 from the first audio stream inside a video file.
Which bitrate should you pick?
128kbps for speech, standups, and voice notes. 192kbps for music you will actually listen to. 256 and 320 are insurance and extra megabytes. A four-minute extract at 192kbps is about 5.5MB.
If you needed WAV for a DAW, use MP4 to WAV after you know which clip. Extracting to MP3 first and expanding later is a worse archive.
Silent videos fail. That is correct. A screen recording with no mic needs a different capture, not a louder encode of nothing.
Should you trim the video first?
If you only want one quote, trim the video, then extract. You still pay RAM for the full file on this page even when the MP3 is tiny. A shorter source is kinder to phones.
DRM-wrapped iTunes movies will not decrypt. Unprotected iMovie exports will. If Finder shows a lock, stop.
After extract, the audio trimmer can cut dead air. The volume booster can raise a quiet room mic. Do not boost before you listen. Clipping a conference already in the red helps nobody.
MKV rips with five audio tracks still yield one MP3 here. The default stream is almost always the main language. If you extracted commentary by accident, that is a track-order issue in the file, not a bug in the bitrate menu. Isolate the right stream on a desktop, then drop that file.
Frequently asked questions
Does extracting audio from video lose quality?
- A little, because the output is MP3 and the soundtrack was usually already compressed. At 192kbps the extra loss is hard to hear on normal equipment. You cannot recover the picture later. Keep the original video if you might still need it for the slides or the faces.
Which audio track gets extracted?
- The default stream, almost always the first. Commentary, signs, and dubbed languages are not listed. If you need a specific track, isolate it in an editor, then drop that file here. This page will not show a track picker in a browser tab.
Is extract audio different from MP4 to MP3?
- Same idea, more inputs. MP4 to MP3 is the format page for that one pair. This tool also takes MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, WMV, and M4V, and the bitrate control lives on the card. Use the format page when you already know the extension and want that article.
Will this extract audio tool work on iPhone or Android?
- Yes, in Safari or Chrome. Large 4K files still load entirely even though the MP3 is small. If the tab reloads, use a computer..
How long does audio extraction take?
- A four-minute video usually finishes in 5 to 10 seconds once the engine has loaded. Longer files scale roughly with duration. The whole video still loads into memory first, so very large 4K sources belong on a desktop.
Is it legal to extract a soundtrack?
- Extracting audio from a video you recorded or have permission to use is the intended case. Pulling a commercial film's score to post as MP3 can violate copyright. Videozify does not store files and cannot check a licence or a store term.
