Why resize video instead of only compressing?

Resize video changes frame size on purpose. Compression lowers bitrate at the same pixels. Resize throws pixels away. A 4K talking head on a phone is wasted resolution and wasted RAM. LMS uploaders that cap 720p reject 1080p even when the bitrate is already low.

This preset scales with even width so H.264 accepts the frame. Portrait 1080 by 1920 to 720p becomes 720 tall with matching width. You are not forcing 16:9. Letterboxing is not added.

Upscaling 480p to 1080p will not invent detail. It makes a larger, softer file. Use 1080p only when the source is at least that tall. 360p is the last-resort chat size.

Audio is re-encoded to 128kbps AAC. Picture is CRF 23 ultrafast H.264. If you needed a smaller file at the same height, compress instead of or after resizing.

If the form also has a megabyte cap, compress the video after resizing. iPhone clips that only needed a wrapper can use MOV to MP4 instead of this scale.
